Deception
Deception is misleading oneself or someone else.
Making believe something is true when it really is false. Making believe something is false when it really is true. Those are deceptions.
Deception is more than just lies. It can be holding back of information that another could use, or denial of information to self. It can be presenting information in such a way that, even though all facts are present, a person tends to come to certain conclusions, conclusions which are a deviation from the truth.
Anything that misleads is deception. If gestures or the absence of gestures are misleading, they are deceptive. If articles or advertisements are misleading they are deceptive.
Any person who misleads is being deceptive. That means anyone – public officials, management, group leaders, private individuals – anyone who misleads.
When we buy a deception that another presents, we deceive ourselves.
How can we function properly, how can we come to correct conclusions when we use misleading or mislabeled concepts for answers!
Deceiving self and deceiving others, it seems to me, does a great deal to make things complicated and confusing. Maybe if we take a look at deception, look at what it really is, and be done with it, then we can be honest without ourselves and with others and allow life to be simple and straight forward. Of course, I may as well start with myself – because I perceive it, there is that element within me.
