Pride
There's something to be said for pride. A person with pride of self tends to constantly improve the self. A person with pride of country tends to constantly look for ways to improve the country. A person can have pride of any group, including race, religion, team, and company or corporation. The person with pride of Earth tends to constantly look for ways to improve Earth. The same goes for humanity.
The pride addressed here is related to pride of accomplishment; not the egotistical pride that is really a belief in something that is actually a deception.
